Natasha Danvers was born in the London borough of Lambeth on the 19th of September 1977 to parents Don and Dorette who themselves were athletes. Her father was English Schools Intermediate 100m Hurdles champion whilst her mother also competed in both the High Jump and Javelin.
Whilst growing up in London, Natasha attended the Sydenham Girls School and then Westminster University and Bromley College before accepting an offer to attend The University of Southern California and relocating to the USA.
After graduating from the USC with a B.S in Music, Natasha turned professional as an athlete. Her early successes included being a Commonwealth Games and European Championships finalist. The year 2000 saw her compete in her first Olympic Games in Sydney where she finished 8th in the 400m hurdles.
It would be 8 years before Natasha would have another chance at Olympic glory. During that time she married her coach, Darrell Smith in 2003 before giving birth to her first child, Jaden, in 2004. She returned to athletics in 2006 where she competed at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games winning a silver medal and finishing the season as British Number 1 but her greatest achievement was yet to come.
2008 started terribly with Achilles and hamstring injuries, however Natasha finished in 2nd place at the British Championships which secured her place on Team GB for the Beijing Olympics. She won her heat and finished 2nd in her semi-final to qualify for the 400m hurdles final.
In finishing 3rd not only did Natasha win her first Olympic medal, she also set a personal best time of 53:84s.
Outside of athletics, Natasha is a talented artist, singer/songwriter as well as a motivational/public speaker and qualified personal trainer.
